First off, hats off to Obama to finally signing something into legislation. Not everyone is happy but something was finally done. If you ask me, it doesn't make things better or worse for me, so you can go cry a river for all I care, for I have none to cry about.
I do have a few things to say about the recent "revelations" of the Catholic Church scandal. While it is shameful to hear about how the Vatican covered up numerous cases of molestation, why is everyone surprised? Did people forget about what happened less than ten years ago when the scandals leaked about altar boys and priests molesting? This isn't a new development, this is an unresolved issue. The fact that Benedict is being treated as though it's all his fault is, in my opinion, stupid. You can't pin the blame on the guy that recently had been made pope. This has been going on throughout John Paul II's days.
Some people want to do the whole, "this is why I hate religion" rant. That's not a smart thing to conclude. It's not the religion's fault that this happened. There's a difference between the faith and the people claiming to live that faith. The problem here is that, as an organization that promotes spirituality, holiness and the like, they have failed in ensuring that their clergy and people within are abiding by the commandments and principles they claim to uphold. Once again, faith and religion aren't the problem, the people that are doing the injustices are the problem.
The problem cannot be solved over night. It will take a massive effort from believers within the Vatican to make meaningful change. The Bible clearly says to love one another as we love ourselves. It also talks about abstaining from fornication. It also says it is best for one to be married than to burn in lust. It also says that he that finds a wife finds a good thing. I believe that there are dogmas thrown in from the high clergy (NOT the Bible) that have triggered this. Even Jesus condemned the Pharisees for having their fellow Jews overburdened with things they themselves added unto the Law of Moses that even contextually were nonexistent.
